The Bears introduced their new Offensive and Defensive coordinators in a 45-minute press conference on Thursday afternoon. Matt Eberflus took the podium first, sporting a new look, and expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the process that brought aboard two highly capable coordinators.
Next up was Eric Washington, who referred to the defense as “our system,” indicating that he and Eberflus would be sharing defensive responsibilities, with Eberflus handling play-calling duties while Washington focuses on mentoring our “explosive” group of playmakers.
Waldron concluded the presser with a focus on adaptability. It seemed to subtly critique former offensive coordinator Luke Getsy’s propensity for throwing screens on third and long. Like others, I listened keenly for any hints about the team’s quarterback plans, but nothing was revealed. The Bears maintain their tight-lipped approach.
Nonetheless, Bears fans should be pleased to have two competent coordinators with proven track records of success. Things are looking up.
